Most installations that go wrong fail on the site, not the machine. This is what to measure, who confirms what, and the questions to settle before delivery day.
Installations rarely fail because the machine is wrong. They fail because the route was too narrow, the circuit was shared, or the lift was never measured. Every item below costs minutes to check and days to fix later.
None of these numbers are universal — they depend on the machine. The job of this checklist is to make sure you know what to ask, and to get the answers from the machine's specification rather than from general advice.
The machine fitting its final position does not mean it can reach that position. Walk the full route — kerb, doors, corridors, turns, lift or stairs — and record:
Once the machine is in place it will sit there for years, so check the position properly:
| Check | Why | Who confirms |
|---|---|---|
| Floor level and strength | A loaded machine is heavy and must sit level to keep dispensing mechanisms working correctly. | Facilities / structural, against the machine's weight from the spec sheet |
| Clearance behind and above | Refrigerated units need airflow; service needs room to open panels. | The machine's specification sheet |
| Distance to any water or drain | Relevant where a machine is fed or drained. | Facilities + supplier |
| Sun and heat sources | Direct sun and nearby ovens make refrigeration work harder and shorten its life. | Facilities |
| Customer space in front | Door swing and user room; in public buildings, egress routes must stay clear. | Facilities / property management |
This is the item most often guessed. Ask the supplier for the machine's electrical specification — voltage, plug type, and whether a dedicated circuit is required — and give that document to your electrician. Whatever the machine, two rules hold:
Card readers and telemetry usually connect over cellular or Wi-Fi. If your site relies on Wi-Fi, test the signal at the exact position — concrete walls and below-grade rooms are where connections unexpectedly fail. Agree in advance who is responsible for connectivity and who supports the reader during an outage.
There is a simple test for the whole list: send your supplier photos of the doorway, the lift and the intended position before delivery is scheduled. A supplier who studies them before confirming the plan is one who has done this before.
If you are early in the process, the machine pages describe the categories we build and the site factors each one cares about, and the enquiry form is where a site check starts for us.
On a standard ground-floor position with a clear route, the on-site work is short — typically a couple of hours from arrival to a tested machine. Upper floors, tight access and after-hours requirements add time. Your supplier should confirm the window for the specific machine and site.
It depends on the machine — some are specified for a dedicated circuit, others run on a standard outlet. Do not guess: ask for the electrical specification in writing and give it to the electrician who will do the work.
Level is necessary but not sufficient. Refrigerated machines need airflow clearance, all machines need service access to panels and doors, and customer areas need room in front. Confirm the specific clearances from the machine's specification before fixing the position.
